Gung-Ho 2017 – Raising money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Saturday 20th May, Temple Newsam and five intrepid members of the Ascensor team went Gung-Ho! Gung-Ho is a 5k run with a difference, an obstacle packed race made up of inflatables of all shapes and sizes, and it was great fun.

We took part in the event, the first of our ‘10 years, 10 challenges’ in 2017, to celebrate Ascensor reaching ten years old this year! Our nominated charity for this event was The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, we were raising money for this great cause which is very close to Sophie, our marketing placement student’s heart. Sophie managed to raise over £1000, a great start to our year of fundraising.

After a pretty dismal week’s weather, quite amazingly the sun was out all morning which made the event even better. Some of the team took part in last year’s event, it was good, but this year the obstacles were better organised which meant no queuing and we could motor round the course.

The obstacles were a mixture of inflatable walls and ramps, it’s a knock out style inflatables (one is 100 ft and called ‘welcome to the jungle’ and the pièce de résistance is the last one called the thriller – a 30 step tower with water slide into foam to finish the event!

Check out the Ascensor Facebook Page for our slideshows – there were plenty of spills and thrills along the way, Kamikaze David (as he’ll be known from now on) stacked it plenty of times trying to race through the obstacles, feet first!

A few words from Sophie:

"We thoroughly enjoyed Gung-Ho and it was a highly successful day! I would just like to thank everyone who donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, we raised an amazing £1,185 which will support the amazing research and work they do, not only to help improve the lives of those living with the daily struggles of the lifelong genetic condition, but helping to find a cure! Bring on our next challenges including Total Warrior in June, somehow we think that’s going to be a bit tougher!"
