The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice support children with life-limiting illnesses and their families within our region and as part of our ongoing support for them we decided to do a Firewalk. Six of our team including James (who only joined us last Monday), Donna, Hannah, Alex, Rob and Andy took part in the twenty foot walk over a burning hot (over twelve hundred degrees hot) path to raise money for the charity. Over £2,500 was raised into our Just Giving account on the night by sixteen walkers that included rugby league legends Andy Gregory and Roy Dickinson, Alex from The Forget Me Not, Gary from Tendo and Mark from HSBC.

The evening began just after 5pm and included a DJ (spinning flaming hot classics Relight My Fire and Fire Starter among others), a Stormtropper (massive thanks to @No1Stormtrooper Richie for having his picture taken for donations) and a burger van. Living next-door to a pub has always had its advantages for the Ascensor team and we are very grateful to The Pheasant next door for supplying plastic glasses and allowing us to fundraise amongst their punters during the evening. As well as raising money to do the walk we also had a raffle and donations box.

Blaze were the organisers of the main event which started at 7pm with our training that involved some serious mentalist techniques before we went out to see the fire being lit. After a few photo’s we returned to our motivation session for some final woop-wooping and a few roars and then the walk began. Karen from Blaze led the way and then we all followed, the crowd was amazing and everyone made it across injury free – what an enlightening experience and very proud of everyone involved.

The fundraising was excellent and the camaraderie and positive vibe was awesome, such a great night!
