Since being founded back in 2007 by current Managing Director, Andrew Firth, Ascensor has continued to evolve and we’re proud to have witnessed steady but meaningful growth, particularly over the last 4 – 5 years!
We feel very lucky, in an industry renowned for having somewhat of a revolving door syndrome when it comes to staff retention, to have many of the same innovative team members still working for us today!
Fully recognising the role our people have played in helping to bring about this steady, continuous growth - through consistently delighting our clients with our high-quality web design and development services, underpinned by a unique approach to creative digital strategy - we thought it appropriate to let our people get involved in planning our decennial celebrations!
A Year Long Celebration, While Trying to Give Something Back
It’s Ascensor’s 10th birthday year (with our official birthday falling on 16th November 2017) and we wanted all our wonderful team to feel as though they’ve played their own part in planning the yearlong celebrations!
We’ve always taken pride in the fact that we’re quite a charitable bunch, naturally, but to mark the big 10 this year, as a team, we thought why not work hard to help give something back while having some fun at the same time?!
These thoughts led us to conceptualise the 10 Challenges to celebrate our 10 Years in Business or, as it has become to be known around the office lately, the Ascensor 10 in 10!
The 10 in 10 Challenges
We are immensely proud to be reaching this milestone in 2017 and, to ensure we don’t fall into any kind of complacency, we’re looking forward to stepping out of our collective and individual comfort zones as the year progresses!
As a team, we have decided to celebrate Ascensor’s 10th birthday by carrying out 10 unique challenges over the course of the coming year.
This will involve the whole Ascensor team getting involved in different 10 unique challenges, with the added incentive of fundraising for several different charities which have been nominated by individual members of staff. Staff have been given the flexibility to choose a worthy cause which means something to them personally, and the company has committed to matching individual fundraising efforts up to a maximum contribution per event.
Everyone within the Ascensor Team has been getting excited about this concept and we’re really looking forwards to getting started with our 10 challenges!
Some of the challenges Team Ascensor have signed up to so far…
1. Gung Ho!
The whole digital marketing team, a few developers and our astute leader have all signed up to participate in the annual Gung Ho! 5K inflatable obstacle course on 20th May in Temple Newsam, Leeds!
We had so much fun doing this event last year, we simply couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to do it all again and raise money for a good cause at the same time.
2. Total Warrior
A handful of the braver Ascensor team members will be braving Total Warrior this June to raise money for charity.
We’re currently working on trying to persuade a few more team members into signing up and we’ll share details of the nominated charity for this event once we know more.
3. Leeds Memory Walk
This year, Leeds Memory Walk will take place on 23rd September 2017 starting at Temple Newsam House in Leeds.
Volunteers can either participate in a shorter 2km route or the 6km route. Both routes take you around the Temple Newsam estate and through woodland paths, with stunning views of the grounds and surrounding areas.
This is one of the gentler challenges we’ve come up with and we’re expecting to see near full participation from the team as a result!
4. Yorkshire Three Peaks
This is a 24-mile walking challenge which involves climbing Yorkshire’s 3 tallest mountains within a 12-hour timeframe. The mountains of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent are jointly known as the 3 peaks and will be scaled by the Ascensor team at some point in late spring or early summer!
5. National Three Peaks
Several team members are keen to take on the National Three Peaks challenge. This involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland within 24 hours.
The 3 mountains are Scafell Pike in England, Ben Nevis in Scotland and Snowdon in Wales. A handful of brave Ascensor team members have already committed to taking on this challenge in late summer and we’re currently planning our support team to ensure completing this is logistically possible!
We will be releasing details of the other five challenges that we’ll be trying to complete once we’ve finalised all the details.
We’ll also be attempting to provide updates and coverage of our efforts and celebrations through further blog posts after each event!
Here’s to another 10 years!
